Smith

I don't rember the name of the town where we were when I took this picture. We were somewhere in the middle of SD when I took a wrong turn or missed a turn when I looked up and noticed the street sign with our last name. If one of us had an "S" as the first initial it could have been even better. Maybe it works for someone else. :)

Lena

My husband has a cousin with the full name Magdalena but she has always been Lena to us. She is a pretty freshman in high school so I thought she'd get a kick out of the elderly Norwegian who shared her name. :)

Evan

This name will probably end up posted more than once since it's my son's name. Before naming him Evan I hardly ever heard or saw the name but now I notice it everywhere. It is also in Hot Springs, SD.

Smith

This little shop made me think of my sister-in-law. It bears her last name, hometown, and it's just the kind of place she'd shop. It's in downtown Hot Springs, SD.

Jefferson Davis

How this blog was born...

When I was a kid some friends of the family were visiting the south eastern United States. While touring one city they came to the intersection of the streets "Jefferson" and "Davis" . Now this was only noted and shared with our family because my dad's name happens to be Jeff Davis. So they brought my dad back a picture of their smiling family standing under the intersecting street signs bearing a close rendition of his name.

Ever since I catch myself seeing signs with "people names" and thinking that I should do as these friends did for my dad so long ago. Occasionally I have done it. A favorite college professor named Earl has a picture of my husband and I standing under the city population sign in the town of Earl, WI. I've seen plenty of other signs with names but usually I start to wonder if everyone would appreciate it or if I'm the only one who'd find it amusing so I don't take the picture. I will admit usually the signs don't work out quite as well as the first story above as to include both the first and last name but sometimes the business bears the name of someone I know who could/should be in that business. As I kept thinking about this I figured a blog might be the place to do it. If people I know happen to have their name on the front of a building, on street sign, or on the side of a passing bus I can take a picture, post it here, and they can find it if they want along with anyone else who happens to stumble along this place can see if I've found them too.

Throughout the rest of the posts I blog I will title each post with the name in the picture. I'll also try to include a little more about where the picture was taken so that you can try to find your name on the list and see where your name is in lights or at least on a sign. Enjoy.
